They popped out from a wood chip pile on our farm! It seems that they look like kiwis rather than bird’s nest from the photo. How come they are named Bird’s Nest Fungi??
The “eggs” containing spores are actually hidden inside the immature brown hairy fruiting bodies, which will only open up when they reach maturity to reveal the “eggs” inside and they look like a bird’s nests. Raindrops will eject the “eggs” and therefore help the fungi spread.
