Fungi as food

There are several species of fungi that are popularly eaten. These include oyster mushrooms, cendawan kurkur, shiitake, and the termite mushroom.

The termite mushroom is called cendawan busut in Malay or kai yoke koo, meaning chicken meat mushroom in Chinese. It is the most highly prized edible mushroom and cannot be grow as a crop.

The Chinese use the Stinkhorn fungus in soups and other dishes and it is regarded as a tonic.
