About Us

TMI was established in 2008. It was initiated by a group of friends who love nature and love mushrooms. It is hoped that mushrooms will be used as a medium to convey the spirit of harmony, and mutual support. In the following year, it was formally registered as a non-profit-making organization in Hong Kong and subsequently obtained by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Taxation Office to confirm the charity exempted from tax payment under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance from 10 February 2009. (To search for charitable tax exemptions, please enter the Mushroom Initiative for verification).
At the same time, TMI opened up an experimental base for mushroom and agriculture in Tai Po, and cultivated organic mushrooms and organic vegetables. In addition to promoting community-based cultivation of mushroom, in recent years, Mushroom Fungus has been more active in promoting climate mitigation in recent years, including the establishment of healthy soils and plants, and demonstrating to the community the importance of interactions between various organisms and microorganisms in the soil. This has led to an effective way to respond to the urgent problems of global warming.

We believe that as part of nature, we should respect the nature and make environmental protection our major concern.

Our vision is to build a biodiversity world in which all beings live sustainably with respect for each other.

We commit ourselves to promote the important role of fungi in environmental conservation and achieve sustainable living.

  1. Fungi and Education:
  • Learn from fungi to do the networking including communities, environmentalists, private and public sectors to achieve nature harmony.
  • To encourage environmental protection and waste reduction through the cultivation of edible fungi and related products using organic waste substrates.
  • To promote awareness of the role of fungi in environmental conservation and waste recycling, conduct research and activities related to the conservation, promotion and utilization of fungi, with a focus on native species.
  1. Environmental aspect:
  • In response to the climate change, we strive to recover soil and land surface ecosystems through the use of fungi and micro-organisms to rebuild ecosystems and increase their carbon sequestration capacity, thus contributing to the reversal of global warming.
  • Study the importance of soil ecology, especially the role of fungi and micro-organisms.
  • We use carry out and practice various types of work, from agricultural production to forest reforestation in different projects. The works can demonstrate to local and international communities in order to arouse human concern for climate change mitigation. We hope the people of the world can work together to fight for the restoration and maintenance of the planet’s ecology.
